Open Studio
Develop your skills in a creative and independent environment.
Red Wing Arts is excited to offer an Open Studio program for artists and clay enthusiasts looking to develop their skills in a creative and independent environment. This is a great option for those who have prior experience working with clay but do not need direct supervision or instruction. For absolute beginners or those who need a refresher, we recommend taking our Introduction to Wheel series or a Try-It class.
Open Studio benefits include:
Access to our fully equipped studio during open hours.
Use of studio equipment, tools and materials including clay, glaze, wheels, worktables, and basic clay tools.
Kiln firings (done by our staff).
Storage space to keep works-in-progress.
Supportive staff to guide you and answer questions.
Connection with other potters and artists in our community.
Open Studio Process:
Prior to your first Open Studio session, you must attend an orientation. Email Cherish Haskell at cherish@redwingarts.org to set up an orientation.
Purchase a Punch Card, which includes one bisque and one glaze firing (or the equivalent to one full kiln load of each) and use of the glazes.
Purchase clay from Red Wing Arts. No outside clay or glaze is allowed. A 25 lb bag of clay can be purchased for $25.
4-Use Punch Card (1 session (2-4 hrs) per punch)

Please note: Our studio is intended as a learning environment for beginners and intermediate potters who wish to continue to learn and improve their skills. It is not suitable for advanced production potters that intend to produce a high quantity of ceramic pieces.
