Open Studio

Develop your skills in a creative and independent environment.

Red Wing Arts is excited to offer an Open Studio program for artists and clay enthusiasts looking to develop their skills in a creative and independent environment. This is a great option for those who have prior experience working with clay but do not need direct supervision or instruction. For absolute beginners or those who need a refresher, we recommend taking our Introduction to Wheel series or a Try-It class.

Open Studio benefits include:

  • Access to our fully equipped studio during open hours.

  • Use of studio equipment, tools and materials including clay, glaze, wheels, worktables, and basic clay tools.

  • Kiln firings (done by our staff).

  • Storage space to keep works-in-progress.

  • Supportive staff to guide you and answer questions.

  • Connection with other potters and artists in our community.

Open Studio Process:

  • Prior to your first Open Studio session, you must attend an orientation. Email Cherish Haskell at cherish@redwingarts.org to set up an orientation.

  • Purchase a Punch Card, which includes one bisque and one glaze firing (or the equivalent to one full kiln load of each) and use of the glazes.

  • Purchase clay from Red Wing Arts. No outside clay or glaze is allowed. A 25 lb bag of clay can be purchased for $25.
