21st Poet Artist Collaboration | April 14–May 15, 2022
Red Wing Arts is excited to present our Poet Artist Collaboration! Each year over 70 juried artists and poets participate in this event which includes an art exhibit, poetry readings, and chapbook featuring all artwork and poetry of the participants. Approximately 36 poems submitted by Poets are chosen, and participating Artists create a new piece of art inspired by one of those poems. The joy and challenge of this event is the translation of the emotion and story of the written words of a poet by an artist into a representative piece of art.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts & cultural heritage fund.

16th Annual Red Wing Arts Plein Air Exhibition | June 29-August 7, 2022
Imagine painters situated along the Seine in Paris and transport them to the banks and bluffs of the beautiful Mississippi and you’ll get Red Wing Arts’ Plein Air. Plein air (which approximates to “open air” in French) is a study of how light and shadow interact with things, creating a snapshot of one moment in time that can never be repeated. Red Wing, MN which sits at the entrance to the Driftless Region, is a stunning place. The charming downtown, dramatic bluffs, rolling hills, vistas and winding rivers define the historic town. Each year artists come from around the region to paint “recognizable” Red Wing; over 100 works are hung, judged and exhibited. In 2022, award-winning artist Bob Upton awarded $5,000 in cash prizes.
