Drawing Foundations

  • Red Wing Arts Clay & Creative Center 436 W 3rd Street Red Wing, MN 55066 (map)

Unlock your natural drawing abilities in this beginner-friendly class inspired by Betty Edwards’ groundbreaking book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. Through a series of engaging exercises, you’ll learn to shift from “left-brain” thinking to “right-brain” perception - helping you draw what you see, not what you think you see. No prior experience is necessary, just an open mind and a willingness to observe. By the end of the course, you’ll be surprised by what you can draw!

Students will learn how to shift their thinking and discover a new way of seeing through structured exercises that focus on perceived edges, space, relationships between objects, light and shadow. Exercises include drawings that explore contours and blind-contours, negative and positive shapes, still lifes, facial features, shading and cross hatching, perspective, and more.

This class is perfect for beginners, returning artists, or anyone who believes they "can't draw."
