Annual Earth Day Art Treasure Hunt
Announcing the fourth annual Red Wing Arts Treasures on the Trail, a Red Wing Earth Week finders-keepers art-in-nature program! It is the perfect reason to explore Red Wing’s Trails the week surrounding Earth Day. Make it an annual family tradition!
When: Monday, April 21 - Saturday April 26, 2025
Where: Red Wing parks and trails
Our community is alive with creativity! And through Treasures on the Trail friends and family members of all ages are encouraged to connect with the wonders of nature's creations that surround Red Wing. Earth Day is widely celebrated by many Red Wing organizations. Red Wing Arts designed the week-long program to celebrate and bring attention to the arts, as well as the natural beauty of the Red Wings parks and greenways. Those who find the trail treasures get to keep them.
This year, Red Wing Arts has commissioned artist, Sue Pariseau to create ceramic birds and leaf pendants that will be placed along Red Wing Trails. These treasures will be hidden in plain sight; once found, you are welcome to move the vase to your home. Yes really, take it home!
*If you are not one of the lucky seekers who find the treasures, more ceramic birds & leaves are for sale at Red Wing Arts in our Depot Shop (418 Levee St - open Thursday-Monday 10-4 & Sun 12-4).
About this year’s artist, Sue Pariseau
Sue Pariseau has a long time relationship with clay as she explains, “I’ve enjoyed playing in the dirt since I was able to walk. Mud pies, digging for rocks, gardening, you name it, I had fun doing it. Much later in life, at a community education class, I discovered the joy of playing in clay.” Since that discovery, she’s taken advantage of various community studios and workshops to develop skills and explore firing techniques. In 2003, she established Old Crow Studio in the beautiful bluff country of Southeastern Minnesota.
Sue loves making pottery people use in their everyday life – for that first cup of coffee in the morning, serving the kids favorite meal or sneaking a bowl of ice cream before bed. She believes each of those occasions and so many others are made more joyful when experienced in handmade pottery. Her body of work is split between cone 6 oxidation firing and cone 10 wood firing which allows her to create very colorful pots from the electric kiln, but also some very earthy, organic looking brown pots from the wood kiln.
